FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Snipaze.

Storage & Privacy
Where is my data stored?

Snipaze stores all notes, images, categories, and settings locally in your browser using IndexedDB. No data is sent to any server.

Does Snipaze track me or send data anywhere?

No. Snipaze is 100% local-first. There is no analytics, no account system, and no external server. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Can I export or delete my data?

Yes. You can export a single note, a whole category, or all data at once from Settings. Formats supported: .txt, Word (.docx), and PDF — every export includes source URL, page title, and timestamp. Note: Import Backup is currently disabled and will be enabled in a future version. You can also clear all extension data from Settings at any time.

Features
Does Auto Save create notes automatically?

When Auto Save is ON, Snipaze shows the note insertion popup each time you copy text on a page. The popup lets you copy the text, create a new note with it pasted in, or insert it into an existing note. When Auto Save is OFF, you insert content manually.

Can I extract text from images on a page?

Yes. Use Extract → OCR Text and drag your selection over any region, including inside images. A popup then lets you choose what to save: the selected region (screenshot), the extracted text, or both together — as a new note or inserted into an existing one.

How do I organise notes into topics?

Click + Add Category in the sidebar to create a named category (e.g. “Research”, “Ideas”). Assign notes to categories when saving, or move them later from the note’s menu.

Can I pin important notes?

Yes. Open the note’s overflow menu and select Pin. Pinned notes always appear at the top of your notes list regardless of filters.

Troubleshooting
Why should I refresh the page after updating the extension?

Some changes are not visible after an update. Chrome may require a page refresh on tabs that were already open when the extension was updated. Simply refresh the page to load the latest version.

OCR is not working well. What can I try?

Select a smaller, higher-contrast area. Reload the page and try again. Very small or stylised fonts may produce lower accuracy — copy the text manually if needed.

My notes seem to have disappeared. What do I do?

Open Settings and use Export All Data before doing anything else. Notes are stored locally in your browser — make sure you’re using the same browser and device where you saved them. If you still can’t find them, contact us and we’ll help.

Compatibility
Can I use Snipaze with PDFs?

Yes, but with one limitation: Snipaze cannot display its sidebar directly inside PDFs opened with Chrome’s built-in PDF viewer. Here’s how to capture from a PDF:

  1. Make sure Snipaze is pinned to your Chrome toolbar
  2. Open the PDF in Chrome
  3. Click the Snipaze extension icon in the toolbar
  4. Click and drag to select the region you want
  5. Save it as an image, extract its text with OCR, or save both
Does Snipaze work on all websites?

Snipaze works on almost all regular webpages. It cannot run on certain restricted pages such as the Chrome Web Store, browser settings pages (chrome://), or the Chrome new-tab page — this is a standard browser security restriction that applies to all extensions.
